Catskill Mountain Foundation

Sugar Maples Center for the Arts is part of the Catskill Mountain Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the arts and enriching community life in the Northern Catskills. The Foundation has spent over two decades nurturing creativity in this region—restoring historic buildings, fostering local talent, providing space for artists to grow.

Where You’ll Stay

Sherwood House is lodging provided by the Sugar Maples Center for the Arts. This beautiful 14-bedroom house will be our home during the retreat.

Everyone will get their own private bedroom with an ensuite bathroom.

The rest of the house includes a beautiful, fully equipped kitchen, large public space for meals and gatherings, and two porches for relaxing. A laundry room and high-speed Wi-Fi is also available.

Where You’ll Learn

The Sugar Maples Center for the Arts ceramics studio is a state-of-the-art space perfect for creativity and exploration.

The wheel-throwing studio is fully equipped with 12 potters’ wheels, 4 worktables, throwing tools, banding wheels, and more.

The studio is light-filled and surrounded by the beauty of the Catskills, with two back porches that look out over the Batavia Kill, one of the small rivers that provide water for the city of New York.

 

How to get there

  • We recommend taking the Adirondacks Amtrak from New York City. You’ll travel 5 stops to Hudson Station – about 2 hours.

    Then, it’s an Uber to Sugar Maple Center for the Arts. (about 45 mins)

  • The drive from New York City is about 2 hours and 30 minutes. If you have or rent a car, this is an easy option.

  • There may be a couple carpool spots with Lauren Babitz, your host.
